Real cattle, proven under real conditions, raised by people who understand that progress comes from patience, not shortcuts.
KEG Hereford Ranch is a solid example of what long‑term, disciplined selection looks like when it’s built around function instead of trends.
Located in the Nebraska Sandhills, KEG runs cattle in an environment that does not allow shortcuts. Their Hereford and Red Angus cattle are expected to calve unassisted, maintain condition on forage, and stay productive year after year. Fertility, structural soundness, disposition, and longevity aren’t marketing lines here — they’re non‑negotiables.
What sets KEG apart is their balance. They value visual appraisal and stockmanship while also using data as a tool, not a crutch. Performance information matters, but cows still have to work in the pasture. If they don’t, they leave the program.
The result is a herd shaped by decades of consistent selection pressure in the same environment, without chasing extremes. Moderate, durable cattle built to last — capable of doing a job without constant inputs.
A bit of history behind the name: KEG began with Ken’s dad Elmer and his brother‑in‑law Gerald — Ken, Elmer, Gerald: KEG Herefords.
